On April 28th, a full two weeks after the crest of the Red River had overflowed its banks, I had an opportunity to fly over the flooded plains of the valley, courtesy of my client, Mennonite Disaster Service. This shot shows the area immediately south of Winnipeg. At the bottom of the photo you can see the floodway veering off to the left of the photo and the flood gates controlling how much water flows through the city in the river's natural path. The floodway diverts the excess water around the city in a specialized ditch. See more photos at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/brucehildebrand/sets/72157617657938101/
