Adult literacy is a key factor in changing the culture of reading for kids. If parents or caregivers are not readers, their children are less likely to read, even though they have learned and enjoy reading. With this in mind Osu Children's Library Fund is producing materials to help adults learn to read. In a series entitled Literacy Changed My Life the publisher focuses on trades and occupations. The books outline a simple story line about a trade (seamstress, hairdresser, caterer and welder) and how reading enhances their lives. At the back each book is a photo glossary of tools and materials used in the particular trade. The books have been well received in Ghana and also are popular in Canada where many English as Another Language classes have adopted them.
